Hi,

I have previously connected an LG ultrafine 24md4kl monitor to a thunderbolt 2 (late 2013) macbook using this cable. My question is can I connect a thunderbolt 1 (late 2012) mac mini the same way? Is thunderbolt 3 backwards compatible to thunerbolt 1. I don't care about all the monitor accessories working as long as I get (at least) 4k video output.

If I can't connect it in this way, would i be able to connect it using the Wacom?

many thanks

Yes, you can connect it just like that but you'll be limited to 30 Hz refresh at "4K" resolution unless you start experimenting with custom timings to see what you can squeeze out of the 2012 mini's HD 4000.

The Wacom Link Plus should work too but you need to use an USB-C cable for that one, not a Thunderbolt cable.

I am new to using a 4K monitor. What would be the ideal "4k" connection for using a LG UltraFine with a Mac mini ?Thank you in advance.

I am looking to get the Mini when they come out with the new one and pair it with a LG 32UL950 , thnx for the help.

I just got the LG 38WN95C-W ultra wide and connected it to Mac Studio (the most basic version). It connects through the HDMI cable, but doesn't see the thunderbolt connection (I get "no signal" message. I'm using the cable supplied with the monitor -- it doesn't say what it is, but the website promised thunderbolt 3. What could be the problem?

@TooManyQuestions I had a similar problem with my mini when using the USB-C and I disconnected the HDMI and did a restart and it connected using USB-C from that point on. Don't know if it is the same for Thunderbolt
