i'm going to be going on vacation soon. and i know if i had a macbook i could control my screen from anywhere in the world that has internet access. and i love this!

but i dont have a macbook anymore and i'm stuck with a pretty good pc.

is there a program (thats hopefully free.. but if not.... its ok) i could use
to control my screen from a nother room, or from another location?

or is it different because of two different OS's?

Yes. It's called VNC. Mac OS X has a built-in VNC server, and there are plenty out there for Windows. (Not being a Windows user, I can't recommend anything in particular.)

I'm a bit confused about what your setup is, though.

Umm...

System Preferences -> Sharing -> Check Screen Sharing, Copy down the URL. You may also want to turn on file sharing.

You missed a step. In Screen Sharing, under Computer Settings, you have to check "VNC viewers may control screen with password:" and enter a password.

To share files with Windows PCs, under File Sharing, you'd have to click Options and enable SMB.

don't forget you can control pc/mac, mac/pc, pc/pc, mac/mac

with logmein.com for free...it works well enough
