Can I delete "iPhoto Library" file now that everything has transferred over to Photos

With Photos now I have two 17GB files in my pictures folder.

One called "iPhoto Library" and one "Photos Library". They are the same thing right?

Since iPhoto is gone can I just delete the "iPhoto Library" file without any worries?

Does Photos work the same that if I just backup the "Photos Library" file to an external hdd I can reload that file at anytime on a new mac?

If your iPhoto Library has completely carried over to Photos, you can delete the iPhoto library without ill effect. "Photos" only stores photos in the "Photos Library".

And the Photos Library backs up in the same manner as the iPhoto library.

You won't save much space, so you might as well leave it, Photos and iPhoto use hard links.

Nice link Danny---no need to delete as far as I am concerned. But, at OP's 17gb anyway of knowing how much space OP will gain. Guess you could move it too an ext hd and see. Then move back if minimal gain. That shouldn't mess with the hardlinks afaik--
