can I delete my entire Backups.backupdb folder

hi everyone,

I stupidly deleted my time machine backups to try and save space on an external drive but now they're stuck in my trash. I figured a way with terminal to delete individual back ups but does anyone know if I can just delete the whole Backups.backupdb folder via tmutil in terminal?
