I'm thinking about picking up a high end external monitor (http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/viewsonic-debuts-24-inch-vg2427-1080p-lcd-monitor/) and was wondering if there are any limitations to my macbook's resolution?

Can I display 1,920 x 1,080 external via my white Macbook?

I read the intel chip guide and it says the x3100 can support up to 2048 x 1536, does that sound right? 
edit: Peace, the link you provided is only applicable to the native resolution of my 13.3" screen. If I were to buy a 24" external monitor, is it possible to run at a higher resolution than the default?

OP, to answer your question, and i am surprised that no one has yet...
your macbook with the x3100 integrated chip can handle resolutions up to 1920 x 1200
You can also extend your desktop real estate to support the macbook's 1200x800 and 1920x1200 simultaneously.

I've run a Dell 2407 24'' monitor at 1920 x 1080 with an iBook. I suppose it would run a Dell 27" too.
If the humble and ancient iBook can do that then yes, Agatha, your MacBook can do it too.

I had my first gen 1.83 macbook connected up to a Dell 24" 2405 for a long time if that's any help.
