can i do an usb c to optical then to my avr?

or do i use HDMI? but i still want be hooked up to my monitor just Music to the AVR
 
Sure. Just grab one of these.

You’ll need a USB-C adapter to complete the connection.

I used this setup back in the naughts for my minidisc.
