I currently have the iPhone 4 on Verizon but I'm not eligible for an upgrade. Can I do this:

1) Add a line and get the $199 price for the 16GB
2) Call Verizon when I get the phone and change to a family plan
3) Then take a dumbphone to Verizon, say I lost my iPhone 4, and then activate that with the family plan. That would drop my bill down significantly to about $100 per month

Can you do this? Replace a smartphone with a dumbphone and not be locked into the price that you were already paying?

If you say you lost the iPhone 4, they will blacklist the MEID and will become a paperweight.
