I'm going to get snow leopard, but I don't feel like buying ilife, can I just get it back from time machine?

Your Mac came with two install disks, OS X and Applications. Use the application disk to reinstall iLife after you've installed SL

More info

I'm upgrading. My mac crashed a while ago, and they updated everything, including ilife, they put imovie HD on it, and I like it a lot better than the imovie I had before, so if I installed the one on the disc, if I have that disc, than it wont be the same.

as long as you're just doing a straight-forward upgrade (the default way to install SL), your ilife will be the same, as will all the rest of your apps, data, profiles, settings, etc.
