Can I download and save current iOS

I just ordered an iPhone 4, but it won't ship for three weeks. I assume it will have the new software with the security patch. i want to be able to jailbreak it. Can I download the current release and downgrade when I get the phone? If so, how?

This should be posted in the hacks thread. Also, I don't know if you can downgrade from 4.1 without saving your SHSH.

I've been able to downgrade from 4.0.1 to 4.0 on a replacement 3GS of mine, so you never know.

Three weeks might be too late. Whatever firmware your phone comes with you will NOT be able to downgrade as you do not have the SHSH blobs saved for it. So there isn't any point in downloading the current firmware. You'll either have it already on the phone or it'll be a new firmware and you can't downgrade
