Can I just walk into an Apple Store tomorrow and have them install a screen protector (and buy it through them), or do I have to book an appointment (or buy it online and select pickup)?

From my experience Apple does not install screen protectors on iPhone launch day. Too many people to do that.

Check this protector and do it yourself

50/50 a Specialist at an Apple Store would install a screen protector on your iPhone. If they can do it, go for it. Otherwise, you can buy one that has a alignment ring that allows for seamless installation. Amazon, TJX has a lot of 'em, you can also use a 15P/15PM one if there's no 16 ones yet.

Yes they always sell and install the Belkin ones on launch day. I’m thinking about doing the same just to save some time today (will be very busy)

Different size screens this year so not compatible.
Oof my apologies, I forgot they have fuller/longer screens on the pros. Also 15P/PM users seen that when they pop it in the 16P/PM cases they see extra space on the bottom.

Get the Spigen EZ protector and install it as soon as you unbox the phone, when it's at its cleanest

A doddle to install
I managed to go 0 for 4 the last two times I tried to myself. The alignment was perfect, but I got dust, fuzz, and even cat fur under one time even while in a steamy bathroom. I’ve given up and let Apple do it for my own sanity’s sake.

I was able to get a screen protector installed this morning at the Apple Store. The screen protector this year seems sharper than the previous years.

Thats unlucky. Mine have all been faultless recently, same with installing them in my watches.

However, as said, I fit them as soon as I unbox the phone and remove the factory screen protector

Have it all laid out on my desk ready to go etc

You can. But the people in line won't like it

I’ve tried 2 brands from Amazon and they fit good but they reduced the touch sensitivity to the point that the phone was almost unusable. So I installed a 14 pro max one that I had and it had the same effect. It makes me wonder if apple calibrated the screens for a screen protector. Can anyone chime in if they are using a protector on their 16 and their phone works fine

I did today, no issue. I had originally ordered a Torras and ESR from Amazon but after reading about fit and rainbow effects I decided to just return them and get the Belkin at apple. It is branded as the UltraGlass 2. Couple things to note, you must purchase it in store if you want them to install since it is a special "Brown Bag" package specifically designed for Apple's installation devices and is not available for online purchase. The ones you buy online and pick up in store are only for self install and will not work with the installation machines. I did not know this so just ended up doing a simple swap in store as they cost the same at 39.95 USD.

I am very pleased so far, no bubbles, dust, lifting, rainbow effects or cutting off of any part of the screen. If there is any criticism (and it's a small one) I wish the corners of the screen shield were a little more rounded as swiping up you do tend to feel the screen. I do not find it to be sharp at all, just a small ledge that you can feel. Cases with full bottom coverage will eliminate/mask this.

You also get a 2yr warranty so if anything goes wrong you can get it replaced free of charge. I filmed the entire install process and will post it later tonight on my YT.
