If so, i cant work out how to do it. Any ideas?
I'm on Catalina (new iMac, woohoo) but before that on old iMac on 10.13 it wasn't there either and i cant find any way to get it.

I'm not aware of a way to get it in the menubar in Catalina... but it is an option in the upcoming BigSur - though all it does is open a Window with Airdrop active.

Correction: BigSur's Airdrop Menubar Item does NOT actually open a window, it simply allows you to turn it on/off and choose who can see you when using AirDrop (see screenshot below).
