I'm not sure if this has been brought up, but I ordered an iPhone through apple and my wife ordered hers though AT&T. Mine is officially shipped and on the way. Hers is still listed as "processing" and "backordered" I'm not sure if it's going to get here on the 24th, so my question is...when my phone comes in, can we just activate it under her number? I'm in no rush, and I can hold out and wait for mine to ship. Plus, I have a 3G now and she has some crappy backup phone.

Any help appreciated.

Awesome! Good to know. Do we just hook it up to her computer and go through the normal process?

It shouldn't screw up anything and charge me unsubsidized pricing, right?

That's not what I'm looking to do. All I want to know is simply if I can give her my iPhone when it comes in, have her activate her via her computer and wait for hers to come in for myself?

What I'm unsure of is does AT&T/Apple assign some of the serial numbers to my phone number? Or is it just a purchase and it can be activated on any account?

the easiest way to get an answer is to go directly to the source. Call AT&T and ask them that question. They have good customer service they will only be too glad to help you.

You need to call AT&T when you get your iPhone before
activating it. They should be able to swap info over the phone.
They'll ask for some info so have both phones with you.

Youll have to call/ go to an ATT store to swap the SIM cards, as the microSIM in the phone will be set up for only yuor number.

drop by an at&t store after you get it, they'll be able to switch over the numbers easily but will likely charge you an $18 fee. I asked them the same question a few days ago and that was the response.

What would the $18 fee be for? i've done this multiple times and never had to deal with it.
