Can I go back to Mavericks after downloading Yosemite?

I hate Yosemiti, and my MacBook seems to be running slower with it. Is there a way to DIY to go back to Maverick or do I need to take it back in to the Apple store? Thanks.

Back up all your data.

Go into the app store and create a bootable version of mavericks on a clean USB drive(there are many guides to do this online)

Do a clean install of mavericks from the usb drive and then migrate your data back.
