I play movies all the time on my M1 Mac Mini; I'm hoping I can have the DVD player App (playing the movie) stay on top of any app I may be switching to.

I feel like this is something that existed like 10 years ago when DVD drives were still built into MacBook's and Mac Minis'.

Any help is appreciated.

Honestly, I haven't watched DVDs on my Mac in a long time, but I could've swore there was a View option for DVD Player called "Float on Top" just like there is with QuickTime Player, but I just looked and there isn't. I can't believe that - seems like a huge oversight. And like you, I could've swore it used to be an option.

VLC can play DVDs and DOES have a "Float on Top" option (under the Video menu). You might try that as a workaround for now.

RIGHT?! I’m certain the featured existed in the DVD player app.

I will take your advice and use VLC application

The reason was that the DVD player app was a carbon 32bit app. So they had the rewrite all the UI, which they didn't and only make a bare basic app.

The whole UI, that was the only way, the Carbon UI framework is not available anymore on macOS.
Anyway, it was a sloppy job, I guess they didn't really care about DVD-Video when no Mac has a dvd reader since years ago.
