Can I have iLife apps in two partitions?

I just partitioned my Snow Leopard MacBook hard drive and used the OS X Install Disk to put Snow Leopard on a new partition. Then I tried to get iLife apps onto the new partition using the Applications Install DVD but the installation failed (unknown installation error, it said).

Does Snow Leopard not install iLife apps when they are already on another partition?
