Can I install windows 10 through Bootcamp on an unsupported MBP mid 2009 straight from USB/ISO?

I've read up on upgrading unsupported macs to windows 10 through an existing windows 7 or 8 bootcamp install but I was hoping to save myself a lot of time by having access to a windows 10 iso (through MSDN licence). I can see that a lot of people have had success installing windows 10 on their unsupported MBP but only through the windows native upgrade, Ihaven't found a thread describing my exact situation.
