I've got a 3GS running a 4.0 JB, however it's starting to get a little slow and I want to update to 4.2 since Find My iPhone is now free, and the only reason I have for JB anymore is SBSettings but I'm sure I could live without that.

So can I just update to 4.2.1 in iTunes, or do I need to "restore" first and then update?

Thanks for any help! :)

lol, poor guy, I hope he read this before upgrading :D

ROFL, I can't wait until he comes back onto the forums asking why Find My iPhone doesn't work for 3GS.

Actually, yes it is free.

If you read the footnote on this page you'll find you only need to create the account on a newest generation device, then you can use it on any other device running 4.2.

* Create a free Find My iPhone account on any iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod touch (4th generation) running iOS 4.2. Once you create an account on a qualifying device, use your Apple ID and password to enable Find My iPhone on your other devices running iOS 4.2. Find My iPhone is not available in all countries.

I created my account on an iPhone 4 and right now I have free Find My iPhone on my 3GS! ;)
