I leave one of my cars at work for extended periods. Can I leave an airtag in there to keep track without it being a problem?
I read somewhere that if airtags get separated from your phone for too long, it might go off.

I think it only goes off if it starts moving independently of you/your phone (i.e.: If you leave it in a backpack at home, you're fine, but if someone else takes that backpack to the beach while you're at work, the AirTag will start beeping.)

After 3 days of not having contact with your phone, it will start intermittently "chirping" - trying to be found. It's supposed to do this when it's moved. (So, if the car is stationary, it likely won't make any sounds).

It's not very loud.

Me, I put one under the hood of my car.

I wonder if there’s a way to disable or damage the speaker. I suspect someone will make a YouTube video on this soon 😂

Normally, the sound is hard to hear even in a quiet room. As was said, as long as the item holding the tag hasn't moved, it shouldn't go off.
So if I loan my car to my son on a weekend trip, it will chirp the whole time?

Can this be shut off?

Put it in the trunk or under the hood somewhere that it won't fall out. :)

As others have said, the chirping isn't very loud - and it's only supposed to be after 3 days of being out of contact with its owner and when it's moved.

The AirTag silicone holder I picked up is this one: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B093Q7KF3M/

No, I don't trust the adhesive on the back - I used gorilla glue and then put some duct tape over the end (and onto the frame) - underneath the hood of my SUV. No-one will hear it chirp up there. :)
