I have the base 27 inch model with 8 GB (2 4GB sticks) and I plan to buy an additional 8 GB stick (just one stick) to make it 16 GB all in all. This is alright, right? No issues whatsoever? I know i should be getting the 1600 label (not too good with the terms) and I am fairly new to iMac in general.

You remove the dual-channel functionality and cut the speed of the RAM for certain operations in half. It's better to install a 2x4GB or 2x8GB kit instead.

So it really is not advisable then. Thanks for the clarrification. I will take note of this.
