I'm getting an appleTV to stream the bowl games on for our cooperate aircraft. We have the hdmi in and a screen on the front. The overhead speakers are horrible so I'd like to see about getting a couple speakers to put in the cup holders. Can I get any speakers I want?

Since you already have a wired setup for that HDMI cable, why don't you build in at least a couple of good wired speakers too? Depending on the size of the plane, you could even set up a good 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system.

Bluetooth is inferior to wired in just about every way except for not needing wires.

Put in a nice amp or receiver for those wired speakers and that plane could be rocking.

If you don't want to go to that trouble, consider putting in higher quality speakers in place of those overheads. As is, those are probably cheapest possible but have the wiring already in place. So put in some better quality ones and they can sound better (too).

As to the question, I don't know. Mine are wired. This may help and this too.

Are cup holder sized speakers going to be any better than the overhead ones? The latter are likely much bigger and HomePod Minis aren't going to fit there either.

I don’t think you can use any speaker. It needs to be one that supports a stereo friend.
My favorite is the UE Wonderboom 3. It supports a stereo pair and should sound very good.

Have you searched / look on any of the airplane, or audio forums? I would think replacing the existing speakers with better ones (maybe with built-in amps)(Cruchfield.com would be a good place to start for hardware) would be a better option.
