Ask Apple
I reinstalled my OS (10.4) and did not add a partition at that time. My question is – can I now add a partition from after I’ve installed my OS and all the programs, or will I have to do another install once more?

My assumption is that it can be done with booting from the install disk and using the disk utility there, since bootcamp can make a partition on an existing instillation.

If it can be done, can I rename the drive or do I need to keep the existing name?

Better to ask a stupid question than it is to do something stupid I guess.

Thanks

You can do it from the command line with diskutil resizeVolume once you've updated to at least 10.4.6.
