Can I pay 6s/7 on release date with mostly gift cards?

Im collecting apple store gift cards to save up for the 6s/7 and I was wondering if it would be a problem if I pay a majority with Gift Cards. I know with the iPad 1st get apple blocked this, so not sure if this is a new release policy or a one time thing they did. cant find much more info
