I'm trying to try out iCloud Keychain but all of my passwords up to this point have been saved in 1Password. Not having the 1Password app for my iDevices (and not willing to shell out for it just yet) I wanted to try out Apple's free solution to password management. But I can't seem to get it going. What should I do first?

Have you activated Keychain in the iCloud settings on your idevice?

Log into a site that uses a username and password and it will prompt you to add to iCloud Keychain.

Yes, iCloud keychain has been activated on all devices. Is there a way that might avoid visiting each site individually? Most of these are ones I'm currently logged in on on my Mac, but not logged in on on my iDevices. Would I really have to log out of everything and back in again to get this done?

When setting up 1Password there was an easy way to import all of the Keychain passwords to it (at least I think there was), but it seems like there's no easy way back.

Just call up Apple support, they'l give you their secret 1Password database hacking tool that can extract all the passwords and import into Keychain.

His question was valid, and this was quite unnecessary.

Thank you Daremo.

Maybe I'm the only person that this is an issue for. It just seems like it should be an easy fix. I give 1Password permission to release info to Keychain and Keychain receives and interprets. But that looks like it's not an option.

1Password exports in a proprietary format and in a txt file, but Keychain seems to only read Keychain files. At one time 1Password seems to have imported and exported in a Mac compatible Keychain file and somewhere near the 1Password 3 release this changed.

You are not alone. I'm wondering how to get efficiently my passwords and websites saved in LastPass into iCloud keychain. I'm still unsure if I would stop using LastPass

I'm not too familiar with 1 Password and I don't have Mavericks yet so this may be a stupid guess…

Do you have 1 Password for the Mac? I believe that opening websites, logging out and then logging back in using Mac Safari will save them to keychain. (Assuming you've turned it on in iCloud's preferences.)

Try one and see if that does it. It requires some manual work, but it's a heck of a lot faster than transcribing all the codes by hand.

While looking around I happened to find this for LastPass:

I'll try one and get back to you.

I tried it with my Wily Plus account. Logged in with the desktop. Responded to a message that seemed to indicate that AutoFill was going to fill the forms. My email address and password appeared in the yellowed fields and I logged in on the desktop.

After it logged me out of there I tried to enter the site through my iPad and AutoFill filled in my email address, but that's it. I might have to edit the keychain entry for… something, just to see if that fixes the problem.

With the LastPass related link above I figured that my potential work around with this was to get LastPass, have it import my 1Password data, and then export that as a Keychain file. Expensive and probably risky, so no dice. But it's an idea.

I'd like this answer myself. I think the problem is, you need 1Password to allow this, and I can't see them doing it, only because this is direct competition for them. 1Password has been "Sherlocked" and they must be in a panic. I will continue to use both, as they both have uses, BUT, I want them to always be in sync with each other. My guess is, SOMEONE will write a script and program that will do this for you, in time.

Keychain is secure. There is no in or out. If there were people would be up at arms complaining about the security breach.

If you want to use Keychain alone, you'll have to manually enter your data, just like you did originally for your password apps.

I think what I did was go to each website for which I had a password stored in 1Password, allow 1Password to do the autofil, and then I got a popup box from Keychain asking if I wanted to store the pass on Keychain. I clicked yes, and the pass got pushed to my other gear.

1Password have always been helpful when I've contacted them so I'll ask and see what they say.

Edit: "Apple does not currently provide any mechanism for this. Not sure of the wisdom of trying a “back way”."

I'm very interested to this discussion, because I'm looking for a solution for a long time. Is there a way to automatically migrate data from 1password to icloud keychain without manually loggin in each site?
