If you want to be able to use the system based burning (from disc utility or itunes, or the desktop) your choices are narrower. If you use Toast, however, you can use almost any drive out there.
It should be in your documentation.
If you know which model it is I can point you to the Apple Support documents.

where abouts does it say anything about removing and installin DVD drives??? sorry bout this but im kinda useless when it comes to searching for things on the inet thanks for ure help
