I have a 15" 2016 MBP. I'd love to make it zip like new by putting in a SSD. However, doing some reading has me thinking that I can't do that on this model, that the existing hard drive cant be taken out.

Am I right here? I'm hoping I'm wrong but fear I'm not.

It is. What I wanted to do was replace the current 500 GB ssd with a 1 TB ssd. Can I do that? It seems from some cursory reading that taking out the SSD is super hard.

Ahh the way you worded it made it sound like it didn't have one to begin with. Officially it's not upgradable. I'm sure there is some convoluted way to do it but you'd cause an issue with your warranty potentially as it'd be an unauthorized modification.

The 2016 MBPro SSD is soldered. You need to know your way around a soldering station (and discover the correct chips to replace)
