Can I put my old iPhone 4 sim in my 4s and skip the activation process?

Sounds like the activation process is a pain in the rear. Any reason I can't just pop my iPhone 4 sim into the new phone and restore from a backup?
 
it should work fine, however not sure if anything has changed sim technology wise to support the higher speeds?
