my brothers 3g is off because of not paying bill.

going to apple store today to get refurb for 199$.

Can i throw my simcard into my brothers phone and use it for the ride ?

will doing thise delete some stuff off of his phone ?

I dont want to screw his phone up. I just want to have a phone for the hr drive.

Nope, it wont erase anything.
All his contacts and info will be there.
None of your stuff will be there so if you need to call people you will have to remember their phone numbers cause only his address book will be available and not yours.

i just did it but didnt get any of my texts. will i lose all my texts? or will they show up in a little bit.

Sim card in iPhone

I just got a regualr phone with no data coverage recently, but I had an iPhone 1G before that. Can I put my AT&T sim card in it and use it for voice and wifi, without being charged extra or getting a data plan?

ok . when i take my broken phone to the apple store to get a refurb. can i get all my texts back and contacts ??

Hope you synced your old broken iphone to itunes recently.
This way when you get back home with the new iphone all you gotta do is restore from backup to get all your stuff back.

If someone texts you they will come in but obviously your previous text conversations will not be on your brothers iphone.
Once you restore from backup to the new iphone everything will be there.

With a 2G iphone is a little different.
You will have to jailbreak it most likelly cause it might ask you to connect to itunes and add a data plan.

all my texts just came through. no good texts but still they came through.

I have done it, and it has worked without telling me to connect to iTunes, but just worried about the bill coming back with data usage because i opt in when i put my card in?

at&t sends you a text message saying you need to get a data plan. that happens if they find out that your using an iphone without a data plan. if you ignore this message, you will be charged for each mb or kb. cant remember. one of those.

If you are on a data ppu plan then you need to tread carefully. What seems to be happening so far with iPhones is that they give you warnings for about a month, then cut off the data service entirely*. So if you are on ppu right now and use it during that first month, your bill may be a shocker**.

Otherwise you should be ok. Blackberries and other smartphones do have the data plan slapped on after several warnings, but so far I haven't seen it done on an iPhone. IMO it's probably because the data plan integrates several other features, most notably visual voicemail. Adding VVM causes your mailbox to reset and you to lose any messages, and I don't think they're quite ballsy to do that even with the warnings. That said the contract specifically says that they can add it on, so there's no guarantee that it won't show up in the future.

*Essentially the same as if you'd requested a data block on a different phone. MMS, downloads, etc, won't work.

**They can fix it, but they'd have to add the data plan in order to rerate the bill - then they wouldn't remove it.
