iPod touch Can I put the January update on my ipod without syncing the music?

I bought the January update of software and am wondering if I can restore my ipod just to have the applications on it w/out my music etc?

You should be able to if you set it to manually manage your content.

Or leave it on automatic but just set it to sync one playlist, and leave it empty.
