So I use iMessage and the Whatsapp Mac app all the time on my Mac, I love not having to pull my phone out to reply when I'm working.
iMessage is perfect because even if the app isn't open (i.e. I've quit it), it still sends me a notification of a new message.

Whatsapp doesn't do this. I have to have the app open to get notifications. Is there a way to make it function like iMessage? I'd love it if so.

I tried always having the app open, but that just bugged my OCD seeing the dot under the app icon all the time. So I tried turning the dots off, but that bugged me even more as then I didn't know what apps were open! So I'm really hoping there's another way.

Hello! You can try to use the "Background Refresh" function on your iPhone. In Settings>General>Background App Refresh, check that it's activated for WhatsApp. Other than that, it's up to WhatsApp to fix a solution for this problem.

I hope that this helped you, and if you were to have any further questions - do not hesitate to ask!
