I just recently switched to Mac and was given a Power Mac G4 (CPU type PowerPC G4 - 2.9). I would like to upgrade and replace the processor. Is this a possibility or would it make more sense to buy a new computer?

I dont know what other people will say but my personal advice would be: keep the G4 if you like it and save all the money you would spend on it and push it for a mac mini. It would be a better, more powerful machine as well as more future proof, software wise. IMO.

You might only update to another G4 CPU, which may hard to come by today.

You will not be able to upgrade to a G5 CPU or any CPU made by Intel.
