Can I restore Time Machine on Monterey with a backup made on Sonoma?

I am on Monterey and I'm thinking of trying out Sonoma.

If I don't like it, can I make a Time Machine backup on Sonoma, wipe my drive, re-install Monterey, and then restore the backup that I made on Sonoma?

To my surprise I successfully rollbacked back from Ventura to Monterey and migrated my Ventura backup in this post.

I was surprised because it is sometimes said (eg the link in that post) is that you need a backup made before upgrading. Note the next post in that thread about Mail and Photos.
