Hi,
Yesterday, my friend gave me Fallout 3 as on Steam as a gift.
I was wondering if a MacBook pro would be able to play this, seeing as it is not compatible with Mac on steam. I have heard that windows games are able to be played with Boot Camp, Crossover, and Wine/Winebottler. Can anyone give me the best way to play fallout 3 at a reasonable speed?

Also, the specs of my MacBook pro are:
2.2GHz quad-core
Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz
750GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5

Can I have anything more specific, from anyone else?
Has anyone had any experience with it? What kind of performance?
What software do you recommend for making a windows-only game run on q Mac?

I'm only asking because I haven't ordered the MacBook yet and would like to know beforehand.

Bootcamp is a utility to help you install Windows. Then once you install it, you can boot into Windows like any other PC, or into Mac OS X like a Mac. WHen you boot into Windows, it will be like any PC running Windows and you can run everything a normal Windows PC can, including games. This is the way to get the best performance... but you have to reboot your machine and lose all access to Mac OS X while running Windows... and take care of a Windows install.

Crossover helps you run programs and games directly in Mac OS X without Windows... its sort of like an emulator, but its not really... it uses "Wine" to run things, same as Wine, Wineskin, WineBottler, etc... It runs some things great, some things ok, or poorly, and some things it won't run at all. Its not free like normal Wine (which is compile yourself and all command line) or Wineskin or WineBottler. I know Wineskin (which I make myself since WineBottler isn't as good and basically dead.. it hasn't been updated in forever) can run Fallout 3, as well as Steam, as I've heard of people doing it.

If you really want to get into Windows games on Mac OS X, you might want to check out the forums over at portingteam.com, as people make and share wrappers to run games on Mac OS X directly... most of all of the wrappers you can get there are Wine based in some way or another.

Use BootCamp (you will need a copy/license of Windows). I ran FO3 with med/low settings on a 2.4 gHz Dual Core MBP. My MBP would occasionally overheat and crash but I'm on much older hardware. Your i7 will be fine.

I don't know if there is a good Wineskin for FO3, it won't run well under Crossover. I doubt it would run smoothly without Windows.

playing fallout on that rig should be NO problem, if you find its lagging on the highest settings, tone down some of the unnecessary's from high to medium or low whatever your preference.
