Yes, I know that this forum is "Windows on the Mac", but it's still a Boot Camp-related question :)

I'm thinking about installing SuSE 10.1, and I just wanted to know whether anyone's tried it, and whether there are any pitfalls (eg. Will the Linux bootloader prevent me from launching OS X?)

Anyone given it a go?
Thanks :)

Wow, only 1 reply. Oh well, my FireWire drive is easily big enough to make a full backup of my system, so I'll just do that first.

I will watch for a report on this. I like suse myself an might have to try it out when I get the intel based mac mini. I have a power pc version of mini now.

Yep, I'll try it out when I get home from work (~10 hours) and post back here with how I got on.

I've been dual booting Linux/OS X but not Windows as well...don't know if that's an issue for you. Stupidly Boot Camp still calls whatever partition you use Windows...

I've been using SLAX (a live CD) but installed to the HD, so it's not what you'd call typical, but works just fine!

I don't need Windows, so there's no problem there. It looks like I might run into troubles if SuSE's partitioner doesn't like GPT, so I'll just wait and see what happens. I started a full backup this morning, so I can recover everything if I screw it all up.

Hmm, my backup failed so it might take longer to get this running than I expected.

I've had some problems with SUSE 10.1 on a PC, so I would be careful with putting it on a mac. It seems to work for a lot of people, but every variation of install I've done results in blank screens. All the install discs check out fine, so I have no idea what the problem is, but I gave up and just installed Ubuntu instead.

My Linux project has been put on hold, now that the Vista preview is out I need to see how much they've screwed it up :p
