would like to sell my iPod touch and as an added incentive, include the firmware 2.0. is that possible?

hope to hear from your experiences.

but how do i go upon doing this?

i would "reset" the iPod touch to delete all my information, right?

would the iPod touch retain the firmware 2.0?

i think there is a secure wipe method that someone may know how to do.

however, to rewipe it (dunno about it being too secure) you could always restore it from the 2.0 firmware. that will clear any info on the ipod

to restore from a specific firmware, i believe you hold the option key when hitting update ipod in itunes. then search for the firmware which will be in the folder ~library/itunes/ipod software updates

hope that helps!

edit: here is another thread discussing secure wip if you are interested.

i would do that before restoring the 2.0 software

That's a *very* good question.

Back when the JSU was still on the market, it was certainly the case that, if you purchased the JSU for your iPod Touch, and then Restored it while it was connected to a different computer, the JSU stood a chance of disappearing.

Yes it will, I've tried resetting to factory defaults already and it stays there. Which raises another interesting question: what if iTouch/iPhone gets bricked due failed update to 2.0. :)

If the iPod already has 2.0 on it when you wipe it and restore to fresh iPod, if you plug it into another computer and restore it will download the 2.0 software. I have done it already.

isnt the update like every other items in the iTunes Store tied to the account it was purchased on. So that for example if you own two iPods you only have to buy it once just like music, videos, and apps work.

So while buying the update is great and you can wipe it. Who ever buys it would have to buy the update since they are on a different iTunes account. That being said I believe iTunes will see it has firmware 2.0 on it and download the right restore image.

If all else falls you can always just burn him a cd with the IPSW file on it.

Yes you can www.amazon.com

Search for iPod touch. They have ones with 2.0 or ones without. I sold my iPod touch on there a week ago so I could buy my iPhone

Yes, did this trick to get a friend on to 2.0

Restore his iPod on my Mac.
Restore from back up on his PC, all is fine.

You cannot go back on software updates, as they have been bought for the device.

I'm very glad to hear that this is true for firmware version 2.0.

I was just pointing out that I've personally seen that it wasn't true with the previous purchased software update, the JSU.

I recently had to restore my iPod, and it had 2.0 on it. No worries. If you plug your 2.0 Touch in a different computer, and then put an iPod running a lower firmware, the update to 2.0 is free. ;)
