Can I send photos from Macbook iPhoto to Photostream?

Is there a way to add a photo from my macbooks iPhoto library to photostream, so that I can view it on my iPhone?

Ive tried selecting the photo > Share > Photostream but nothing seams to happen.

You have to create a new PhotoStream when you add the photo with Share->photostream. I tried adding to the My Photostream and it didn't do anything. When I added it to a new photostream it was available on my iPad.
