Hi,

I have some external drives, that seem to always be spinning. They are just there for CCC backups, so only need mounting when CCC is doing its thing (CCC can mount drives), so to save wear and tear, is there a way to stop the iMac from mounting certain (or all) USB drives. I need to mount thunderbolt connected drive as that has the MacOS on it.

I used Automator to build an app that unmounted my backup drives, and set the app to run when I logged into my Mac (upon bootup). CCC can mount the drive, and unmount them after the backup is complete as you already know.

It works well for me, but I think I will have to redo the app if I change my backup drive names.
