Can I share a scanner between 10.3 and 10.6??

I currently have a scanner (Canon LiDE 500F) hooked up to an older iBook G4 running 10.3. I want to share the device on two newer MacBook Pros running 10.6. I've properly shared the device on the 10.3 laptop via Image Capture, but it isn't showing up as a shared device on the MBPs.

I'm successfully doing some file-sharing between the machines, so I know that they can see each other and all of that. Any idea why 10.6 isn't picking up the shared scanner on 10.3?

Scanner sharing typically requires software from the maker of the scanner installed on both machines.

But if you have to put something in the scanner, you would be next to the machine that is connect to the scanner anyway.
