I was planning on getting one this week, and then I get an email today... it sounds like they are gone... I really don't want a monitor bigger than 24", and I want one larger than 21.5"....

BTW, assuming I can get one, does the 24" one handle HD editing well in iMovie?

You might also want to check with your local Apple Store. They may still have some in stock.

Thanks... I had called a few times today.. and I never got through, but I did just 2 minutes ago... They have ONE in a box, and they won't hold it for me until tomorrow. ( I understand that )... so I hope it is there tomorrow morning when I get to the store.\

So, I will get the 24 or the 21.5....

Do they handle HD editing well?

Check out the refurb section the 2.93 w GT120 it is listed, will probably go quick.

Keep an eye on the refurb store. I was on this morning and they were clearing out the last-gen top of the line 24" at 44% off. It went from $2500 Tuesday morning to $1500 today. If you want a 24" machine, now is the time to buy one!

That said, the 21.5" is the same screen resolution as the old 24", so you don't lose much in the end.

You realize that the new 27" iMac is WIDESCREEN? And that makes it almost the same size as the 24" previous model? Right?

You don't think a 32" HDTV is bigger than a 27" CRT, do you?

LOL... I have worked in a TV station as an engineer for 21 years.....

If I had the spare cash. This is just another "toy" for me to play with... I'll most likely keep using my PC on a daily basis.... I love Apple, but I have no issues with a PC, either.

Something is not jiving here. You said you were going to buy the 24" this week, but then then the new models were announced. Then you say you'd get the 27" if you had the spare cash. But the new 27" is the same price as Monday's 24".

Maybe I am making a mistake in price... I thought the 24" was $1499... I thought the 27" was $1699.... I know, what is $200, right?

looks like the amazon price is discounted $300 from the original list price.

but i'd rather have the new 27" imac.

I was in the Apple store about 2 weeks ago... I am pretty sure I saw $1499 as the price on the 24"..... Maybe I am wrong... In any case, $1499 is my absolute limit for something that will be used more as a hobby than anything else.
