Can i store my custom artwork folder in my itunes library folder?

Hi

Can i store a folder of custom artwork folder in my itunes library folder? Not in the actual music folder but outside. The reason being is i have several itunes libraries and have each library being backed up separately. By doing this i know all of my custom artwork i have created is being backed up in the same place and at the sane time and do not need to have more separate backups.

Would this affect opening each library in iTunes in anyway? Either slowing it or worse?
