i have verizon i herd you can surf the web and talk at the same time how would i turn this option on? i tried going into setting and enable voice and data but it wont let me

Me too. I am not sure I understand OP's question

Until now, this was not possible on Verizon.

i see it but its not highlighted i cant click on it

You have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, correct? You'll have to enable Advance Calling 1.0. You can do this on your Verizon account online, or by calling a customer service representative. The feature is free, but it needs to be activated first.

It should be immediate, once you log into your Verizon wireless account and enable a feature called "Enhanced Calling 1.0" Or you could call 611 and have them do it for you.

I have a 4s and am on Verizon and I have no such feature that I can turn on called enhanced calling.

I have a 4s too. According to Verizon's FAQ page we would need to have an HD voice capable phone in order to use this feature. So going into your online account won't do anything because you won't even see that option there.

T-Mobile motherF'ers! It does simultaneous call + web surfing right out of the box! And you can even do it on any type of connection 3G or above! And it works on any version of iPhone from the 5 and up!

Does anyone know if this feature will eventually work on iphone 5 or 5s? I tried on my wife's 5s the other day but the option wasn't there like it is on my 6.

Thanks

This is true for AT&T with the 5 and newer as well.

As a Verizon customer, this has been a long time coming. I would have switched, but their LTE coverage in my area is just way too good.

The 5 and 5s don't support VoLTE, so I don't believe it'll ever work on them.

On T-Mobile (and purportedly on AT&T) you can talk + surf on the iphone 5 and newer, so it might be possible. Though Verizon does use a different cell conncetion technology than AT&T, t-Mobile, and literally the rest of the planet, so perhaps verizon's technology can't do it on older devices.

EDIT:

Yup, the problem is probably Verizon's technology.

[Verizon's] 3G CDMA networks ... can't make voice calls and transmit data at the same time.

On the other hand, all 3G GSM networks [used by T-Mobile, AT&T, and the rest of the planet] have simultaneous voice and data

So any Verizon phones that came out before 4G / LTE was widespread probably don't have the hardware built in to do both voice and data simultaneously.

The person I was replying to asked why he didn't have the option on his 5/5c/5s. They don't have the hardware needed for VoLTE(or Apple doesn't support it).

For what it's worth, you could talk and surf on a iPhone 3G in 2008 if you were on AT&T.

I miswrote Sprint instead of AT&T.
