Can I turn off my iMac display when I output to my HDTV?

So I got the HDMI Mini Display port to Thunderbolt and it's working nice on my Samsung set. Now, what I want to know is if it's possible to put my iMac display to sleep while using my HDTV only?

Whenever I try putting my display to sleep it goes to sleep on my HDTV as well theres gotta be a workaround right :confused:
 
You could try turning the brightness down manually to zero, it effectively turns the screen off and shouldn't affect external monitors.
