I apologize for such a basic question but is it possible to upgrade my hard drive? I currently have 750GB Solid State Drive and would like a bigger one. I have a mid 2012 MBP. Attached is a photo for a bit more info.

Thanks,

J

I currently have a 750 Solid State Hard Drive. Is there anything bigger? I see the current computers offer a 1 Teribyte.

That is a 1TB drive. I believe it's the maximum size available right now. (within a reasonable price)

Thanks so much. Is that the biggest that is offered?

Do you think someone that has never opened up a laptop could do it?

Read above post, don't buy that one. I just saw you have a Retina.

See post above with the correct style you need

The one I linked comes with an external case to use the old one as well

In the description it says for a 13 inch but I have a 15 inch. Is there a difference in hard drive? And how hard do you think it is to swap?

And thanks again

I'm just reading the first review about that now. Sorry I don't know anything about that.

The review says it fits some 15" but not all.

3. We have found that on some 15” Retina MacBook Pros, Apple’s assembly tolerances may allow for the motherboard to be shifted slightly to the right, decreasing the clearance between the speaker and the back of the SSD. The reduced clearance caused by the shifted motherboard will prevent our JetDrive 720 from seating correctly since it is 0.5mm longer than the stock SSD. We are therefore announcing that our JetDrive 720 is currently incompatible with the 15” MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Looks like they're saying it won't work, so it's hit and miss depending on your computer if it will fit.

It says they are designing one that is the exact length as stock so it will fit the 15" and that details are here on Macrumors.

Thanks for the thoughts but Im to big of a novice to try anything.

I think after reading the above threads its not worth it to go from 750 to 980. Im gonna hope a new MBP will come out with a new design and bigger hard drive.
