i know the prev alum macbook pros were easy to open up and replace the hard drive...how about the new ones were the battery's not meant to be user replaceable?

i have a 500gig drive i just put in my old macbook and am thinking of getting the new 13" macbook pro. i'd rather buy the low end model and just put my 500gig drive in there instead of paying the $130 upcharge.

anyone know?

Upgrading your harddisk is easy... just keep in mind the height of the harddisk should be 9.5 mm. But that's okay since you already have one in a macbook.

I have a 12.5mm 500GB drive in my 13" Macbook (Pro) (previous gen though), so unless they changed that with the latest gen it should fit.

I'm reading some horror stories of drives not being recognized since the EFI update. Make sure someone else has done it....since efi 1.7 there are tons of threads with people having problems with certain models.

This DEFINITELY does not void warranty right? Thinking of ordering a nice 500gb HDD for my macbook pro 13" as dont wish to pay the 140 quid charge too...

Anyone got recommendations?

5400 takes less power, but 7200 is faster...

any brands/makes to avoid?
