GM is the real/official version, by definition. What are you talking about?

It could be a build or 2 off. Of there is anything real important, we'll see 6.0.1 soon as I'm sure the iphone 5's that have been built and shipped wouldnt have much more than the GM on them.

If it was a build or 2 off, by definition, it wouldn't be GM.

iPhone 5's will have GM on them. That's what GM means.

5.0.1 took over a month last year. Don't expect 6.0.1 for awhile.

Apple has made changes between GMs and public releases on the past. OS X 10.7.2 was that way.

I was wondering the same thing. The update software may just be simply looking for the software version. As it says iOS 6, in settings. We may not be able to get the actual official version without doing a reset/recovery.

I doubt it since all iPhone 5's will ship with the GM. They won't make every person who bought a new iphone do a full restore if the build changes.

You wouldn't need to do a full restore. That's what upgrades are for. ;)

If you want to install the released version even though you have GM you will probably get the message that your phone is up to date when you click on the check for update.

You can however download the ipsa file when its know and then option click on check for update and browse to the file.

I was going to post this, but what this guy posted is the answer to your question if you really want to upgrade to what Apple is releasing to everyone. It really isn't different though.

if your really worried about it just hook it up to iTunes and hit Restore and restore your phone. that will download the iOS straight from Apple and install it on your phone.

There is no difference between the GM and the update released to the public now.

Apple releases it to developers early so they can make sure their apps are working on the final version.

It’s the same reason Windows 8 has been finished for a while now, but the public release is October 26th. They have to give developers time to make sure everything is working correctly.
