Can I use a Time Machine Backup instead of the App Disk for restore?

I am getting ready to clean out my Macbook Pro.....not sure where I placed the app disk. I have the Snow Leopard disk....so I am good to go there.... but can I restore the bundled apps from a time machine backup?
