I got my parents a 15” M2 MacBook Air for Christmas. The only issue is the charging cable is much shorter than their old 2013 Air. It barely reaches the outlet. Does anyone use an electrical extension cord?

Im using a Satechi usbC power hub and a longer chord.
any noice good GaN power supply will be a better option that a extension chord.
since the MacBook is worth that extra protection.

You can use the extension cable from the 2013's charger, if the new charger is roughly the same shape. The 35W dual USB-C charger won't take that cable, unfortunately, so you'd need to use a standard extension cord, which will work fine.

Yes, an extension cord will work perfectly fine.

Alternatively, you can use a USB-C power supply and longer USB-C cable. You can both the USB-C charger and 3m or 5m long USB-C cables online (ie Amazon, ebay) or at an electronics store etc etc...

Or if you have a laptop power supply with a USB-C plug...which is fairly common on relatively modern windows laptops supplied by Dell, HP, Lenovo, Huawei, LG, Acer, Asus etc etc...

I've used a regular extension cord with all my MacBooks for years and never had a problem.

The Mac charger for the MacBook Air M2 is only 30 Watts.

Put another way: A standard household outlet in the U.S. supports 15 Amps, or 1,650 Watts… and your MacBook Air charger draws just 30 Watts. So, yes, an AC extension cord is perfectly safe to use with your MacBook Air power adapter.

In fact, the small AC prongs are on a cube which can be removed and replaced with prongs for other countries, or with a U.S. AC extension cable. I think Apple still sells these. Apple used to include these with the laptops.
