My mom has an otterbox defender for iphone 4 that she hates because it is bulky and I was wondering if it is ok for the 4s. I put it on and it seemed fine and the camera worked fine. Is this just a scam from otterbox to get them to buy a new case or will this pose problems for me?

The ambient light sensor is in a different place and may not work. And depending on which version of the iPhone 4 it came from, the mute switch may not line up correctly.

I didn't think of the ambient light sensor. Good call! As for the switch, I have used cases where they didn't line up. If the OP can live with it, it should still be perfectly functional.

Most new cases have been modified to work with both by enlarging the mute switch opening. You may want to make sure it's not already a universal one.
