can i use any old usb foot controller with mainstage?

hey all,

i'd like to get a usb foot controller for use with mainstage in my live guitar rig. the problem is, special music usb foot controllers are expensive.

my company works with transcription software, and we have a bunch of these:

would something like that work for simply changing patches in mainstage?
