I have been using Audacity for a while to record music, but the overall interface is always confusing and the sound is not so great. Should I switch over to garageband?

This all depends on how in-depth your usage is. Garageband is a free app, I'd download it and tinker with it for a while to see if it will work for what you're trying to do. Without know your workflows or anything I can't say if it will be enough.

I use GarageBand and for guitar and backing tracks it works great. The only limitation that I have noticed for me is that the sample rate is limited to 44.1KHz. Not an issue for me, but just throwing that out there.
