Hello,

I am wondering if I can install 10.4 from a G5 iMac install disc on G3 700mhz iBook. Will it work without screwing up something else? This would save me from buying 10.4 for my iBook.

This issue has been discussed numerous times on this forum. The System Restore disk that ships with each computer is specific to that model. There is just a little bit of a difference between the G5 iMac and the 700 MHz iBook G3. So the answer to your question is a big fat No.

At MR, piracy is not tolerated... probably why you have gotten such responses so far.

However, you are more than welcome to try-- you'll soon discover that it will NOT work. ;) Apple already thought of this and so the newer systems (ie your iMac G5) ships w/ specially protected CDs/DVDs which will not allow for the swapping and illegal use you intended.

It wouldn't technically work anyway, so either way, go buy it. It be cheap.
